AAL SCHOLARSHIP--Aid Association for Lutherans sponsors a scholarship for those who own an in-force certificate of membership and insurance or annuity. Over 2,000 scholarships will be awarded annually. Apply directly to AAL or your agent. NOVEMBER DEADLINE

ACACIA FRATERNITY-MADISON SCHOLARSHIP--A Greek fraternity at UW-Madison sponsors (1) $500 and (2) $100 merit-based scholarships for incoming male freshmen. Based on leadership and academics. MAY DEADLINE

ACACIA FRATERNITY-PURDUE SCHOLARSHIP--A Greek fraternity at Purdue sponsors (1) $750 and (2) $375 merit-based scholarships for incoming male freshmen. Based on leadership and academics. MAY DEADLINE

ACADEMIC EXCELLENCE HIGHER EDUCATION SCHOLARSHIP Sponsored by the Higher Education Aids Board of Wisconsin, this is awarded to the top student(s) of the current graduating class as computed by the State based on the cumulative GPA after 7 semesters. (Criteria to be used in case of a tie: first tie breaker is highest average of the most recent California Achievement Test; second tie breaker is highest composite score on American College Test.) Scholarship award is $2250 per ear and is renewable up to four years. Award may be applied toward tuition at any public or private Wisconsin college or university*. The number of scholarships awarded is based on the total number of students at the high school. *each campus pays half the tuition award and the state pays the other half. A private campus may bury their $1125 in a priveious award that the college has already awarded the student. NOT AN APPLICATION

ACADEMY APPOINTMENT--Competitive academy appointments to West Point (the Military Academy), the Air Force Academy, the Naval Academy, and the Merchant Marine Academy, and the Coast Guard Academy are available by application to your US Senator and US Assemblyman's offices. Applications available in the guidance office--the application process is rigorous. NOVEMBER DEADLINE

AFSCME FAMILY SCHOLARSHIP--The American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees sponsors a scholarship program for children of active AFSCME members. Ten $2,000 scholarships are awarded nationwide annually and are renewable for 4 years ($8,000 total). Application includes a 1,000 word essay on "What AFSCME Has Meant to Our Family". DECEMBER DEADLINE

AHEPA SCHOLARSHIP--The American Hellenic Educational Progressive Association-Milwaukee Chapter no. 43 sponsors this scholarship for a student of Hellenic (Greek) descent OR a son or daughter of a member of the Milwaukee AHEPA Chapter, OR Daughters of Penelope. Must also have a GPA of 2.75 or better and demonstrate financial need. Several scholarships between $250 and $1,000 will be awarded. MARCH DEADLINE

ALL SPORTS BOOSTER CLUB SCHOLARSHIPS--Students who have participated in athletics as South in at least one varsity sport during their senior year are eligible to appply. Other requirements include: parent must be current member of the All Sports Booster Club, student must have a cumulative GPA of 2.5 or above, and student must be accepted to a post-high school istitution. Letters of recommendation from a teacher and student's present/previous coach are also required. Several $250 scholarships are awarded each year. MARCH DEADLINE

AMERICAN LEGION AUXILIARY SCHOLARSHIP--Must be son or daughter of a veteran. Minimum of 3.5 GPA and financial need are required. Applications must have certification of an American Legion Auxiliary Unit President. $21,000 awarded nationally, and $4,500 was awarded statewide. MARCH DEADLINE

AMERICAN LEGION SCHOLARSHIPS: 1) AMERICANISM AWARD (D.J. Martin Post #8)--Particular attention will be given to service volunteered to school, church and community. Example: nursing home volunteer, community type projects, church related programs, scouting, etc. One male and one female student from South receive $100 award and medal. MARCH DEADLINE

2) SCHNEIDER-EMANUEL SCHOLARSHIP--Son or daughter of an American Legion member and student has participated in an American Legion program involving youth. Three $500 scholarships available to Wisconsin students. MARCH DEADLINE

AMERICA'S NATIONAL TEENAGER SCHOLARSHIP--Girls age 13 to 18 years old compete for several scholarships totalling $4 million. (Many are to specific colleges.) Based on scholastic achievement - leadership; poise - personality; and appearance at local, state and national levels of competition. LOCAL COMPETITION IN NOVEMBER

ARCHEOLOGY & NATURAL SCIENCES SCHOLARSHIP--National Science Foundation sponsors a summer Young Scholars Program. Scholarships are available based on need. Juniors and seniors participate in a 6-week archeological field and lab workshop. (Regular fee is $540 MAY DEADLINE

ARTS RECOGNITION & TALENT SCHOLARSHIP--Music, writing, dance, visual arts, theater scholarships available. $35 fee charged with application. Up to $300,000 in awards nationwide. (June 1 early deadline; November 2 packet deadline) SEPTEMBER DEADLINE

ASSOCIATED BANK AWARD--Must be planning to pursue a career in the business or finance area. (Can be either a two, three or four year degree program. Must also be in the top 1/3 of the graduating class. This $500 scholarship awarded at South High every 3 years since 1984. (Was awarded in 1996.) APRIL DEADLINE

BANK ONE-WAUKESHA AWARD--Leadership, school, church and community activities are important; rank in upper 25% of your class. Overall academic excellence. $100 awarded to a South student. NOT AN APPLICATION

BLACKSHIRTS FOOTBALL BOOSTER CLUB SCHOLARSHIPS--(1) $500 renewable scholarship, (1) $500 one-time scholarship, and (2) $250 one-time scholarships awarded last year. Selection based on academics and athletics. MARCH DEADLINE

BRADY ACADEMIC ALL-STARS AWARD & SCHOLARSHIP--One male and one female senior scholar/athlete are selected by a special committee from our school for special recognition by the W. H. Brady Co. School nominees become eligible for $1,000-$15,000 scholarships. Nominations are given by the coaches. NOT AN APPLICATION

BROWN, RON SCHOLARSHIP--National program designed to award scholarsip to academically-talented, highly-motivated, African-American high school seniors who have demonstrated social commitment and leadership potential, and who wish to pursue full-time undergraduate degrees. Ten students will receive $10,000 scholarships per year for four years. Students are reqired to pursue one or more summer internships devoted to community service and furtherance of their career objectives during college. Twenty semi-finalists will be chosen and invited to participate in a weekend selection process in March in Washington DC at the expense of the CAP Foundation. JANUARY DEADLINE

CARROLL COLLEGE DIVERSITY SCHOLARSHIP--Carroll College awards (2) renewable (for up to 4 years) $5,000 scholarships to students of minority heritage. MARCH DEADLINE

CLAIROL SPIRIT OF YOUNG AMERICA AWARD--Student must be nominated for their courage, heroism, integrity, compassion, or in a spirit of public service to make our world a better place. Nominator gives a statement as to why the student is being nominated. (Not exclusive to Seniors.) Each year fifty $500 awards are presented. DECEMBER DEADLINE

CONCLAVE SCHOLARSHIP--The upper Midwest Communications Conclave awards 2 radio-TV broadcasting scholarships to attend Brown Institute of Minneapolis and Riverland Technical College of Austin, MN. Each scholarship includes registration, tuition and books. For people from the greater Midwest who want careers in any area of the broadcasting field-air personality, advertising, management, writing, TV, news, sports, production. Student must submit an application along with a cassette tape and script. JUNE DEADLINE

CROOK, EVELYN HOWELL SCHOLARSHIP--Students must plan to attend Carroll College, be a Waukesha County resident and demonstrate strong scholastic ability and community involvement. APRIL DEADLINE
